Volunteers are Important
The Tukwila Pantry could not exist without the generous donation of time by many people. Even though we are only open 6 hours a week, it takes a lot of hands to move 3 tons of food in and out the doors each week. We are always in need of more volunteers. Here are just a few of the jobs volunteers do for us:
- Package bulk items into smaller sizes
- Stock shelves
- Keep up statistical data bases
- Handle paper work
- Design and produce informational materials
- Serve on our Board of Directors
- Break down boxes
- Sort produce and canned goods
- Register clients
- Write grants
- Pick up food at our sources
- Talk to civic groups & clubs
As you see looking over the list a variety of talents and skills are required. If you have a desire to help, we can teach you how, all we really need from you is a willingness to pitch in and make a difference in the community. While most volunteers are needed during our open hours, there are also jobs that can take place during before and after food distribution. More volunteers would allow us to open another day a week!
So, if you're interested, please call the Tukwila Pantry at 206 431-8293 or send us an email. We’ll do our best to match your interests and skills with tasks that need to be accomplished.
Remember just one day can make a difference to a family or individual in need.
